Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Mahjong Rules collects, why it is collected, and how you can control it. It applies to every page on this site.

What the site itself stores

Mahjong Rules does not require an account and does not ask for personal information to read any page. Two things may be stored on your device when you use the site:

Theme preference. If you switch between the light and dark themes, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site opens the same way next time. It can be cleared from your browser settings at any time.
Advertising and measurement cookies set by Google, described below, if advertising is enabled on the page you are reading.

The site does not run its own analytics tracker and does not build a profile of individual readers.

Advertising

This site is supported by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This may include the use of a device identifier or an approximate location derived from your IP address.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
You can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising through the industry opt-out pages maintained by the Network Advertising Initiative and similar bodies.

Where required by law, a consent notice is shown before non-essential cookies are set, and advertising is served on a non-personalised basis until consent is given. See the cookie notice for the specific cookie names used by advertising partners.

The newsletter form asks for an email address. If you submit the newsletter form, your email address is delivered to the editor through a third-party form service (Getform) and is used only to send launch announcements. It is not sold, rented or shared with advertisers. Every message includes a way to unsubscribe, and a request to the contact address below will remove an address from the list.

Server logs

The site is served by a hosting provider, which records standard technical information such as the requested page, the time of the request, the browser type and the IP address. Those logs are used for security and performance, are retained for a limited period, and are not combined with any other data to identify individual readers.

Children

The site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the contact address, write to the address below and it will be deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information held about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to certain processing. Because the site holds almost no personal data, most requests will concern newsletter addresses or advertising consent, and both can be handled directly:

Access and deletion: write to the contact address and state what you want removed.
Advertising consent: change your choice through the consent notice or Google's Ads Settings.
Local storage: clear the site's data in your browser settings.

International transfers

Advertising and hosting providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Those providers maintain their own transfer safeguards, which are described in their privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

If the way the site handles data changes — for example, if an analytics service is added — this page will be updated and the review date at the top of the page will change. Material changes will be described in the newsletter as well.
