Cookie Notice
This notice describes the cookies and similar technologies used on Mahjong Rules, what each one does, and how to refuse or remove them.
Cookies and local storage
Two different mechanisms are involved, and they are often confused. A cookie is a small file a website or an advertising partner asks your browser to store, and it is sent back to that provider on later requests. Local storage is a browser store that only the site that wrote it can read; it is not transmitted to any server.
What this site sets
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| site:theme | Local storage | Remembers light or dark appearance | Until cleared |
That entry is stored only after you change the theme, and it contains no identifier. It never leaves your browser.
Advertising cookies
When advertising is enabled, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to limit how often you see an ad, measure ad performance, and — where you have consented — personalise advertising based on your interests. These cookies are set by Google, not by this site, and their names and lifetimes are controlled by Google rather than by this page.
Where required by law, advertising is served on a non-personalised basis until you give consent through the notice shown on the page. You can change that choice at any time.
How to refuse or remove cookies
- Browser settings. Every major browser lets you block third-party cookies, block all cookies, or clear them. Blocking cookies does not stop you reading any page here.
- Google Ads Settings. Opt out of personalised advertising from Google across all sites.
- Industry opt-out tools. The Network Advertising Initiative and similar bodies maintain pages that switch off personalised advertising from multiple vendors at once.
- Consent notice. If a consent banner appeared when you arrived, re-opening it lets you change or withdraw your choice.
What happens if you block cookies
The site still works. Pages load, the theme toggle still functions because it uses local storage rather than a cookie, and the newsletter form still submits your address through the Getform form service. Advertisements may still appear; they are simply less relevant to you.
Do Not Track
There is no industry agreement on how a browser's Do Not Track signal should be honoured, and this site does not claim to interpret it. The controls above are more reliable and produce a clearer result.
Changes
If the cookies used on the site change, this page will be updated and the review date at the top of the page will change.
